PERMA-HAND™ Suture, Black, Size 5-0, 18", TF-5 Needle is a sterile, nonabsorbable surgical suture composed of silk, a natural organic protein derived from the silkworm Bombyx mori. The raw silk fibers are specially processed to remove natural waxes and gums, resulting in a purified suture material optimized for surgical use. This purification enhances biocompatibility and reduces inflammatory tissue response.

The suture is coated with a unique wax formulation that facilitates smooth passage through tissue and improves surface glide. This coating also contributes to enhanced knot security while minimizing friction during tying. The suture’s braided construction offers excellent handling properties, allowing for precision and ease during placement.

Despite being nonabsorbable, PERMA-HAND™ gradually loses tensile strength over time due to proteolytic enzymatic degradation in tissue. However, it remains physically intact long enough to support wound healing in tissues that require prolonged mechanical support. Its consistent performance makes it suitable for use in general soft tissue approximation and ligation.
